The Early Days

The journey to bring Wrecking Harbour Retreat to life was a true labour of love. Over several years, Matt collaborated with his friend and family member, Aaron Melindy, refining designs through countless revisions. After navigating red tape, construction finally began in spring 2023. Matt’s childhood best friend, Sandy Goodyear, joined the effort, and together with local tradespeople and family support, including Ruth and Dan Gibbons, they overcame every obstacle. By spring 2026, Wrecking Harbour Retreat stood complete—a testament to perseverance.

Each house is named after a historic shipwreck from these very shores, uniquely blending coastal stories with individual design flairs. The Thackeray, Hunter, Lady Green, and Seabird each feature framed articles of their namesake ships. These homes combine Scandinavian minimalism with rural Newfoundland warmth, each interior offering distinct artwork and design touches. Whether for a luxury stay or an unforgettable Newfoundland tourism experience, guests can expect both comfort and coastal history intertwined.
