Whether you’re chasing waves, sunsets, or quiet morning strolls, Lumsden’s beaches offer something unforgettable for every guest at Wrecking Harbour Retreat.

Beach 1

Long Beach

Long Beach, known to locals as Back Beach, is one of two beautiful beaches on the Lumsden North peninsula. Just a short 15-minute walk from our beach houses, this quieter shoreline is perfect for an evening stroll and is especially loved for its breathtaking sunsets over the North Atlantic. Long Beach is a great option for guests seeking a peaceful, scenic coastal experience in Lumsden, Newfoundland.

Beach 2

Lumsden North Beach

Lumsden North Beach, also called Front Beach, is the most visited and lively shoreline in the area. Just steps from our cabins, it offers convenient parking, washroom facilities, and a seasonal canteen—making it a popular choice for families and beachgoers. Guests of Wrecking Harbour Retreat enjoy an added bonus: direct access to this iconic Lumsden beach via a quaint, wooded footpath, perfect for effortless beach days in one of Newfoundland’s most beautiful coastal destinations.

Beach 3

Lumsden South Beach

Lumsden South Beach is a secluded stretch of coastline located about a 20-minute hike from our property. Separated from Lumsden North Beach by a rocky outcrop, it can be reached via part of the Wander Shore Hiking Trail. During capelin season, it’s common to see schools of capelin rolling ashore with the waves. An amazing Newfoundland experience. With its peaceful atmosphere and untouched natural beauty, Lumsden South Beach is an ideal spot for a quiet beach day.

Beach 4

Windmill Bight Beach

Windmill Bight Beach is a stunning sandy shoreline once designated a provincial park and now protected as a municipal park. The area features a sensitive ecosystem that supports the endangered piping plover shorebird. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, swimming, and beach combing while appreciating the natural beauty and ecological significance of this special Newfoundland beach.

Beach 5

Deadman’s Bay Beach

Deadman’s Bay Beach is the longest stretch of white sand in the region and the only beach designated as a provincial park. Located in the community of Deadman’s Bay, it’s less than a 10-minute drive from Wrecking Harbour Retreat. This quiet coastal escape is perfect for travellers looking to unwind, soak up the ocean air, and often enjoy the beach entirely to themselves. An ideal hidden gem along Newfoundland’s north shore.
